Hello, bookish friends! I’ve seen this tag being done by so many lovely bloggers that I couldn’t help myself and answer the questions myself… It’s pretty much mid-December and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas — hence why I’m doing this tag!
Join me in this quest to find out whether I’ve been a naughty or a nice blogger and reader. Hopefully, I’ll be nicer next year!
received an ARC and not reviewed it ✅
Yeah… First prompt and I’m already guilty. I feel incredibly guilty for having requested some ARCs that I never ended up reviewing. There’s no excuse for it, really! But, Santa, if you’re reading this, I’ve been much better with the ARCs that I review and I’ve been reading them at a good pace!
And the worst part of it all is that I actually wanted to read most of these books!!! I guess life got too busy and I forget that the archive dates were coming up for many of these and… I never got around to them.
However! I ended up buying The Hawkman, Our Homesick Song, and The Book of Essie and I’ll hopefully get to them in 2019. I also really want to get my hands on Call Me American and All Day.
have less than 60% feedback on netgalley ❌
Nope! I’ve been pretty good at upping my rating (it used to be at 50% — yikes!) and now it’s at 72%! But don’t worry, Santa, I’m getting it to at least 80% 😉
rated a book on goodreads and promised a full review was to come on my blog (but it never did) ✅
Oops again… I hate doing full book reviews when I’m not in the mood, so this has happened quite a few times already. I wish I could be one of those bloggers that put out interesting and engaging blog reviews every week, but I can’t…
The good news is that I’m challenging myself to review every single book I read in 2019 on my blog and on Goodreads. Please pray for me…
folded down the page of a book ✅
Oh absolutely! I actually don’t care much about folding the page of a book. To me, the cheap-quality paperbacks I usually buy aren’t that precious, and I actually like leaving my mark as a reader. So, in a way, I’ve been naughty of this but in a proud way.
accidentally spilled on a book ❌
Never! I don’t like to eat and drink while I read, simply because it’s just very unpractical. So I’m glad to say this has never happened to me!
DNF’d a book this year ✅
I have! Many! And I’m so glad that I did!!! I hate being in a reading slump, and sticking with a book I’m absolutely hating makes me want to crawl up a wall. My philosophy is that life is just too long to read a book you don’t want to read. And I get enough mandatory assigned readings for university to want to carry over reluctant reading to my free time.
bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it ❌
NOOOO! Books are way too expensive to do this!!! I do buy more books than I actually read, but I always end up getting to them. Or, at the very least, with the intention of reading them.
read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework) ✅
I’m so guilty of this… For me, reading is a great escape from my problems and obligations. When university and work become too stressful, there’s nothing I love more than picking up a book and reading it.
skim read a book ✅
When I get very bored with a book, I’ll just skim it and call it a day. Sometimes you just don’t have enough time for a book you’re not absolutely loving. Do you also do this?
completely missed your goodreads goal ❌
I have entered all Goodreads reading challenges since 2014, and I’m proud to say I only missed one! In 2015, I pledged to read 55 books and only ended up reading 43. I’d still say that I didn’t completely miss the goal.
books pledged by me: 50
books read: 83
I know, right??? To this day, 2014 is still my best reading year
books pledged by me: 55
books read: 43
in case you were wondering, this was the year when I found out about online tv-show streaming websites… I spent all my time watching The Vampire Diaries
books pledged by me: 40
books read: 41
books pledged: 45
books read: 46
books pledged: 40
books read (so far…): 54
look at me doing such a great job!!!
borrowed a book and never returned it ✅
It was just once, okay?!?!?! The story behind this is that I borrowed The Canterville Ghost from my middle school library to read at home. But then, time went by and I completely forgot that I was graduating soon!!! And then I just graduated and still kept the book!!! I do feel guilty, though…
broke a book buying ban ❌
No! Never! And do you know why? Because I don’t put myself on book buying bans since I’m usually very careful about money. Aha!
started a review, left it for ages and then forgot what the book was about ❌
This has never happened to me. Mostly because I don’t start reviews until I’m absolutely in the mood for it, and so I don’t stop reviewing.
wrote in a book you were reading ✅
All the freaking time! I love writing in my books (I’m so sorry, future bibliophiles who study the reading habits of young women in the 21st century). It leaves my mark on them, and so, when I go back to them, I can see what I was thinking. Most of the time I will be surprised at what I underlined/noted. It’s fun!
finished a book and not added it to goodreads ✅
I noticed that this happened to me just a few weeks ago! I was looking at my Goodreads shelf and was finding it super odd that it was that empty. Which was when I realized I’d forgotten to add two books!
borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend ❌
I’m usually the friend that borrows books, so nope! Never happened to me.
dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book ❌
Of course not! I’m more than happy to lend my books and share the love of reading. There’s no better feeling than knowing your friend had a great time reading a book you gave them. My boyfriend just finished reading The Name of the Wind and he loved it, which made my heart fuzzy and warm 😌
Plus, I always get my books back — even if I have to hunt them down.
broke the spine of someone else’s book ❌
Sacrilege! Not even me, the girl who writes and highlights books, tolerates a broken spine. It just looks so… ugly. So, no, I have never (and will never!) do this to anyone.
took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged ❌
I’m so happy paperbacks don’t come with jackets (at least not the paperbacks edited in the US and the UK). I hate book jackets, so I always take them off. But I never end up damaging the book or the jacket — fortunately.
sat on a book accidentally ✅
Absolutely. I’m thinking of creating a series called “Rita accidentally sits on things.” It’d make for a lot of entertainment. Here is a short list of things I’ve (accidentally) sat on: someone’s leg/foot/hand, books, my phone, my cat, my boyfriend’s glasses (RIP), remotes… Shall I go on?
Final score: 10/20
Hey, would you look at that! I’m neutral!!! I was totally expecting to be naughty, so I’m patting myself on the back.
If you want to do this tag, I’m tagging you! It was so much fun to do and I’d love to read your answers. Don’t forget to link back to this post if you end up doing it 🤗
